How to Hire A Lawyer in Wisconsin
Legal matters in Wisconsin require expertise that a skilled professional attorney is best to handle. We understand; the thought of hiring a lawyer probably seems scary and overwhelming, but rest assured that you are dealing with professionals whose job it is to work hard on your behalf. Remember, lawyers, are here to work for you and to win your case. It’s important to remember that finding the best lawyers in Wisconsin to act on your behalf can mean the difference between a legal win, or an unfortunate loss.  When searching for, or hiring a lawyer, remember the “4 Cs”
- Credentials: Firstly, make sure that the lawyer you plan to hire is an accredited legal professional and that they are practicing in the field of law in which they are experienced. Â
- Cost: It’s no surprise that legal experience and talent will cost you more – just like any industry. However, ask around to see what a few lawyers will charge to get an idea of an average price for services. Then, decide for yourself what the extra experience is worth to you.
- Comfort: Interview a few lawyers/attorneys and see who you feel the most comfortable with.  Remember, you will be forming an attorney/client “relationship” and personalities and trust are paramount.
- City: Also consider that you will likely be meeting face to face with your lawyer; so hire one that is easy to travel to. After all, that is the point of USLawyersNearMe!

Wisconsin Court System
Within the Wisconsin judicial branch, there are two federal district courts, a state supreme court, a state court of appeals, and trial courts.
It’s interesting to note that the vast majority of cases will be held in front of a municipal or circuit Court, then depending on the outcome, the case can be elevated to higher courts. In the end, the Supreme Court is considered the highest authority.
Â
Trial Courts:
Wisconsin Municipal Courts
Municipal courts are found in most municipalities, cities, and villages of Wisconsin. Most cases in municipal court involve issues with traffic, parking, and ordinances, including first-time DUI offenders. There are 232 municipal judges and 230 municipal courts in the state.  The largest municipal court and three full-time municipal justices are located in Milwaukee. The other full-time municipal court is located in Madison.
Wisconsin Circuit Courts
The state’s trial courts are the Wisconsin circuit courts. All civil and criminal jury trials, as well as cases involving minors, traffic violations, and probate, are subject to original jurisdiction by the state’s circuit courts. In Wisconsin, there are now 257 circuit court judges. Milwaukee County has the largest number of judges at 47 judges; 26 counties have only one judge each and smaller counties share a judge.
